Greg Bokenkamp

“Greg Bokenkamp is doing everything right. He is well aware that snowboarding isn’t his job. He doesn’t get paid. He receives little accolade for his talent. He drives a shitty truck. He waits tables post-shred; and he loves to snowboard. How in the hell can that be considered doing everything right? Well, Greg may not have the material possessions or the bulging bank account that accompany international recognition from shredding super-stardom, but he is conscious of the fact that he must continue to do what is expected from him in order to keep riding a snowboard for free. While a number of unmentionables are sitting on their asses counting zeros as endorsement deals pile up in their inbox, Greg is lapping the Mammoth park offering up his favorite tricks to the lucky lift-riders; that is, until he’s gotta punch-in later that night and offer up dinner specials to those same exact people.”  -Tom Monteresso, Associate Editor SnowboarderMag

Shred history
I started in the winter of 92-93 I think. I remember the very first time at Bromley Mountain in southern Vermont. I had learned to ski when I was about 2 years old. My dad ran the rental shop there so I got a board that was way too big 'cause they didn't make any for little guys like me. My friend Ethan and I tried it out and thought it was stupid (or probably too hard) so we un-strapped our back feet, sat down and went sledding instead. It was the best! The next year I grew a little and snowboards shrunk a little - I was still a little small, but it worked out. I had a Burton Air with three strap Flex bindings. That was the beginning.
Personal riding style
Steady progression, forgetting tricks and reeling them back in, pretending I'm surfing even though I don't really know how.
Pipe, Park, or Backcountry Pow? Everything in the same day would be amazing. Powdery parks can be really fun. Riding a halfpipe fast and landing high on tranny is an amazing feeling - there's no impact but it can bite you if you don't stay within that very narrow margin of error.
What’s fresh
Those of you who are unconcerned.
What’s stale
Cool guys and 14 year old kids trying to learn 15,000 tricks in one session of summer camp. Take 'er easy - have fun!
Shredding pals
Kids that moved to Mammoth from places such as Vermont, Massachusetts, Ohio, PA, NY, NH... and some others folks that I met out here in the wild west.
Tunes
The brand new Boss album is pretty good. I like a lot of stuff. Waylon, Willy, and the gang.
1 Trick
BS 180
Favorite Movie
The Haakonsen Factor

Most shradical experience
Probably the first time I rode the Dragon's Tail at Mammoth. Really steep trees with tons of snow. Not to mention the traverse to get there across an amazing ridge.
What’s the low-down on your plans for the upcoming season
Film a ton with Rome... some contests perhaps, not getting hurt and staying healthy.
Other Hobbies/Activities outside of snowboarding
Skateboarding, Golfing, XC mountain biking.
Last words
Not so much.
