Chris Waker

"Potential is an interesting concept. Those without it can still achieve, and those who posses it can still fail. While witnessing the success of the underdog is a pleasure, the achievements of an athlete with potential, drive and a work ethic can be amazing. That said, Chris Waker is living up to his potential. A natural athlete, Chris comes from a supportive family and was raised in the heart of the East Coast snowboard scene. Yet even with such an advantage, Chris still works harder than most and as hard as any rider out there. With no lack of support from family, friends and sponsors, Chris Waker heads into the 07-08 season looking stronger than ever. He plans on hauling his snowmobile out to Tahoe for a winter of resort and backcountry riding, filming and a heavy comp schedule that includes the Grand Prix and Burton Open tours. With a qualifying pipe run that links 9s, amplitude and style on quarterpipes and smooth slope style, this should be his season to break into the finals of the big events. Being blessed with looks, strength, skill and charisma might be wasted on many out there but Chris Waker is running with it."  Ian Kirk (Head Coach, Stratton Mountain School)

 Shred history
I grew up riding at Stratton Mountain then I started getting serious about the shred when high school arrived so I decided to attend Stratton Mountain School from 2005 to 2007… During the past three years I learned so much and after graduating, I realized I wanted to make it my career because it is snowboarding is so much fun!
Personal riding style
As casual as possible and make everything look easy… AND always hit everything with creativity.
Pipe, Park, or Backcountry Pow
I’ve only been able to experience a little bit of backcountry but with living out west this year, I plan on experiencing and becoming more comfortable with it a ton more… Regarding my favorite; I love all aspects! At first it was all about park for sure, then I got into riding a lot of pipe and hopefully I can get into the powder asap…
What’s fresh
Alley-oops in the pipe, back tail same-ways, pretzels and taps out, Michael Jackson’s, Method Kickouts.
What’s stale
Goggle sags to the mouth, XXXXXXXL Tall tees with an XS shirt over, and east coast ice (although it provided the best learning grounds for soon-to-be soft & sunny days
Shredding Pals
T-bone Tyler Emond, Haffy, Luke, Scotty, Jack, SMS coaches/rippers, C-bass, Louie V., Jeremy, Goldy, Andy, Connors, Jin Wook, and everyone else.
Tunes
Ipod… usually something that thumps Rick Ross, Ya Boy, T.I. Tupac, Biggie, Hot Dollar, RAD soundtrack, I pretty much like everything…
1 Trick
To learn would be a backside rodeo,,, Favorite Trick would be back 9’s in the U-tube or jumps,
Favorite Movie
Too many to name but Superbad, Knocked up, How High, Dazed and Confused, Half Baked, Talladega Nights are at the top of the list.

Most shradical experience
Every time I get to travel to New Zealand with all my friends.
What’s the low-down on your plans for the upcoming season
Well, I just went to New Zealand for the month of August. Come November 2nd, I will be going to shred Tahoe early season then off to Calgary for the Canadian Open, followed by Grand Prix at Breckenridge. The possibility of doing more of the Open Series in Europe and Japan is there, but basically doing all the Grand-Prix’s and hopefully filming out west riding some pow pow and handrails…
Other hobbies/activities outside of snowboarding
I skateboard a lot…Race motocross, wake-board, surf, and take sweet road trips.
Any last words
One Love
