Lake Tahoe, a quintessential, snowboarding photography and filming destination for shredders applying themselves to achieving a common goal, to progress the sport that drives us all to find that next natural tranny, the next hidden pow stash, and the next level of our abilities. Living the life that we lead as snowboarders is a dream that most people strive to make reality, to break out of the nine to five and find enlightenment on their shredsticks while still bringing in a paycheck. That’s exactly what the Knew crew was working towards with our riders on the twenty third and twenty fourth of January, to build a solid video and photo portfolio for our shredders so that we can help them attain their goals of busting out onto the pro scene, making it possible for them to live the dream.
On our first day we headed out to shoot in Northstar’s legendary parks, bringing east coast and west coast shredders together to slay one of the most infamous mountains in the history of snowboarding. On day two we trekked over to Kingvale, one of the most unique areas I have been to in my days as a shredder, where Day and his crew built us a sick log jam to butter pad that Mary Sallah, Brandon Reis, Bev Vuilleumier, Tucker Speer and the rest of our gang completely destroyed. Open to the public on weekends for snow tubing, these guys rebuild their freestyle terrain week after week, allowing the creativity and innovation of the Kingvale crew to constantly help progress snowboarding to the next level. With Tyler Heffernan behind the lens and Matt Roberge shooting the action on video, we’re psyched to do everything we can to push our riders into the lime light.
After leaving Tahoe, Luke and I, along with Keith Bennett, Tucker Speer and Greg Bokenkamp cruised down to Mammoth to shred the gnar. After braving two foot snow drifts covering the road almost the entire way down in our trusty X-Terra, finally we arrived in Mammoth Lakes, welcomed by twelve foot snow banks on either side of the road. We hooked up with Josh Gunter and headed to June Mountain to snag some more shots of our guys. Tucker Speer, Greg Bokenkamp and Keith Bennett all managed to lock down some shots, making our trip completely worth while.
Big thanks to Day and the Kingvale crew, Matt Roberge, Tyler Heffernan, Northstar, Karl Williams at June, Josh Gunter, all of our riders, Matt Bothfeld, Cody Rosenthal, Shayne Pospisil, and Greg Bokenkamp for letting us crash and everyone else who helped us along the way.
